We will solve an exercise together to understand it better.

Learning Objectives
- Identify the three articles: 'a,' 'an,' and 'the' in sentences.
- Understand that these articles are a special kind of adjective.
- Explain the difference between indefinite articles ('a,' 'an') and the definite article ('the').
- Use 'a' and 'an' for general things, and 'the' for specific things.
- Choose the correct article in your writing to make it much clearer.
4
Introduction to Articles
The words 'a,' 'an,' and 'the' are special words called articles.
Articles are like signposts that introduce nouns in our sentences. They tell us if we are talking about a general or specific noun.
For example, ‘a cookie’ means you are talking about any cookie. However, ‘The cookie’ means you want a specific cookie you have in mind.
Using articles correctly makes your writing clearer and more professional.
5
Let's Look at an Example
Let's fill in the blanks: 'I brought ___ sandwich and ___ apple for lunch. ___ sandwich has turkey, but ___ apple is for my friend.'
For the first blanks, we will use 'a' and 'an'.
Use 'a' for sandwich, a general noun that starts with a consonant sound.
Use 'an' for apple, a general noun that starts with a vowel sound. For the next two blanks, use 'the' because they are now specific items.
So the correct sentence is: 'I brought a sandwich and an apple for lunch. The sandwich has turkey, but the apple is for my friend.'
