RELATIIVIPRONOMINIT
aloittavat relatiivilauseen (relative clause).
She is the girl whose brother I've met.
They surprised me, which was nice.
Listen to what he has to say!
3
The man who stole my backpack has been arrested.
The weather that we had this summer was beautiful.
The farmer, whose name was Fred, sold us 10 pounds of potatoes.
4

thing-loppuinen pronomini
It was everything that I had dreamt of.
all, little, much, few
All that glitters is not gold.

Modaaliset apuverbit
Modaaliset apuverbit (modal auxiliaries), kuten esimerkiksi can, should ja must, ovat keskeisiä englannin kielessä.
Niiltä puuttuvat myös eri aikamuodot (vaikka verbejä could ja would sekä joskus myös verbejä might ja should voidaankin pitää verbien can, will, may ja shall imperfektimuotoina). Puuttuvien muotojen takia verbeistä käytetään monesti erilaisia kiertoilmaisuja.
