Jiro Ono is a very famous sushi chef in Japan. He is 100 years old, but he is still working. His birthday was on October 27th, 2025. Mr. Ono said he wants to keep working because he thinks work is good for his health. He said, “The best medicine is to work.” He plans to work for five more years.
Jiro Ono was born in 1925. When he was seven years old, he started working in a small restaurant. Later, he moved to Tokyo and became a sushi chef. In 1965, he opened his own restaurant called Sukiyabashi Jiro. It is a small restaurant in Ginza, a famous area in Tokyo.
Many people like his sushi because it is very fresh and tasty. In 2007, his restaurant got three stars in the Michelin Guide. This guide is a book that gives awards to the best restaurants in the world.
In 2011, a movie about Jiro Ono was made. The movie is called “Jiro Dreams of Sushi.” In the film, Mr. Ono said, “I haven’t made perfect sushi yet, but I will keep trying.” He always works hard to make his sushi better.
Even at 100 years old, Jiro Ono teaches younger chefs and continues to make sushi every day. He believes that working hard is important for a long and happy life. Many people in Japan and around the world admire him because of his skill, patience, and love for sushi.
