STORY
The story is narrated by an aviator whose plane crashes in the Sahara Desert. While attempting to repair his engine, he is approached by the Little Prince, a young boy with golden hair who asks him to "draw me a sheep". The Prince shares stories of his home, where he tends to three small volcanoes and a single, vain rose. After a misunderstanding with the rose, he leaves to explore other planets. On different asteroids, he meets various adults who embody different human flaws. These encounters lead the Prince to conclude that "grown-ups are very strange". Upon reaching Earth, the Prince meets a fox who teaches him the meaning of "taming"—establishing a bond that makes someone unique.

STORY
The fox shares the book's most famous secret: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye".
Realizing he is responsible for his rose, the Prince decides to return home. He allows a desert snake to bite him, leaving his physical body behind so his spirit can return to his asteroid. The pilot, now repaired and rescued, is left with a bittersweet memory of his friend, finding comfort in the laughter he hears when looking at the stars.
