• terrorists acts on both sides against the other

• 1998 - Good Friday Agreement

Ireland

• 1960s urban terrorism

• targeted banks, stores, police departments, public buildings, and military posts

• Goal: fight against repressive governments and US economic domination

• Notably: Peru, Columbia, Brazil, and Mexico

• 1990s led by Osama Bin Laden

• targeted foreign influence in Arab countries

• 1998 - bombed US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania

• 2000 - bombed USS Cole

Al-Qaida

• Al-Qaida organized the hijacking of four planes

• 2 into World Trade Center (twin towers) in NY

• 1 into the Pentagon outside DC

• 1 into field in Pennsylvania

• Within 1 month, US was in Afghanistan believing Taliban was hiding Bin Laden

• Began global "war on terrorism"
