ART Reading Comprehension

2
Is it creativity?
When people hear the word creativity, they often think of famous inventors, groundbreaking scientists, or award-winning filmmakers. But for many others, creativity is something much simpler—something that shows up in everyday life, in the way we communicate, solve problems, or express ourselves.
3
Digital Photography
Thanks to smartphones, nearly everyone takes photos today. But does that make everyone an artist? Professional photographer Lila Hammond says that photography becomes art when the person behind the camera “tries to communicate a feeling or a story.” A quick selfie might not be art, but a photo that captures a unique moment, emotion, or idea can definitely be considered artistic. Even simple photos can be powerful when taken with intention and creativity.
4
Cooking
Many people don’t think of cooking as creative, but chef Marco Sanz disagrees. “Cooking is a form of expression,” he says. “You mix colors, textures, and flavors to create something new.” Traditional recipes can be art, but so can a creative twist on a familiar dish. Good cooking often evokes memories or emotions—just like a painting or a song. Not every meal is a masterpiece, of course, but when a dish surprises or inspires us, it might be more than just food.
5
DIY Crafts
Do-it-yourself projects—such as making jewelry, decorations, or recycled art—have become extremely popular. Some people see them as simple hobbies, but many crafters believe they deserve to be considered art. According to designer Hallie Rhodes, DIY crafts express personality and imagination: “People put time, effort, and originality into what they create.” Even though crafts are often made with inexpensive materials, the creativity behind them can be just as meaningful as more traditional forms of art.
6
Dance Videos
Short dance videos on social media attract millions of viewers worldwide. They’re fun, energetic, and easy to share. But are they art? Dance instructor Robin Lee argues that dance of any kind requires rhythm, emotion, and technique. “Even the simplest routine,” she explains, “can be artistic if the performer adds style or tells a story through movement.” While some videos might be purely for entertainment, others show impressive skill and creativity—turning a casual trend into a true creative expression.
