The Cookie Ingredients

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). This step is crucial for incorporating air.

  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough cookies.

  6. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Stir in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough using a spoon or spatula.

  7. Scoop and Bake: Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

  8. Bake: Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown but the centers still look slightly soft.

  9. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. They will continue to cook from the residual heat.

Pro Tip: For thicker, chewier cookies with enhanced flavor, cover the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or overnight) before baking.
