Read the following. Then answer the questions that follow.

Eli had been waiting all day for the big soccer game. From the moment he woke up, he felt a flutter in his stomach that made it hard to eat breakfast. At school, every minute seemed to stretch forever, like a rubber band being pulled too tight. He worried he might make a mistake on the field or let his team down.

When it was finally time to play, Eli’s heart felt like a drum pounding in his chest. As the game began, dark clouds of doubt hovered over him, ready to burst with every missed pass. His legs felt like lead, but he pushed through, determined to do his best.

Then, in the final minutes, Eli kicked the ball with all his might. It soared past the goalie and into the net. At that moment, Eli felt like he was flying on a rocket straight to the stars. His worries melted away, replaced with a burst of joy that made him grin from ear to ear.
