Why Does Minimum Wage Exist?

Minimum wage exists to protect workers, prevent very low pay, and ensure a basic standard of living, while also keeping competition fair between businesses.

Fair Labor Standards Act - A U.S. law that protects workers by setting rules for pay, work hours, and child labor.

Minimum wage - The lowest amount of money an employer is allowed to pay a worker per hour.

Overtime pay - Extra money workers earn when they work more than 40 hours in a week.
