​ARTICLE THE WITH GEOGRAPHICAL NAMES

we use article 'the' with:

• морями, океанами, реками, каналами, проливами (the Atlantic Ocean, the Volga, the Red Sea, the English Channel

• горные цепи, хребты, пустыни (the Alps, the Sahara Desert)

• группы островов: the British Isles

• страны со словами kingdom, federation, states etc (the Russian Federation) + во множественном числе

• регионы и области (the Middle East)

we don't use 'the' with:

• названия стран, городов, континентов (France, Spain)

• отдельные горы и острова: (Taganay, Madagascar)

• озеро (со словом lake) lake Baikal

• улицы, площади, парки (Oxford street)
