Author's Purpose

Once there was an elephant who had a small trunk but huge ears. The other elephants made fun of him.  "You don't look like us" they said. "Go away". The elephant was sad. He ran until he found a waterfall. Elephant found that he could have lots of fun spraying himself with water and that he didn't need a large trunk! This made him very happy!

Did you know that there are over 200 seeds on a strawberry? Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C and the little seeds on the outside provide a large amount of fiber. Because strawberries are so delicate and ripen at different times they are hand picked.  You can often visit a strawberry farm to pick your own.  There are many recipes that use strawberries, but most people eat them raw!

Bowling is a great way to spend your free time.  It is something that can be done in any kind of weather.  You can do it by yourself or with a group of friends.  You don't need your own equipment because most bowling alleys will rent you a ball and shoes.  It is always exciting when you can knock down all the pins! This flower pot is a way to brighten your room and grow pretty flowers. You will need a clay flower pot, pretty buttons, super glue, paint brush, and paints. 
Steps:
1. Paint the pot inside and out with two or three coats of paint.
2. Once the pot is dry, use your craft glue to glue the buttons to the rim of the pot. Tip: If the buttons don't stick, ask your mom or dad to glue them on with a hot glue gun.
3. Use either artificial flowers (you'll need Styrofoam to keep them in place) or plant a flower bulb (and add soil) for a bloom you'll see later in the season

When you decide to buy a dog you need to think about whether to buy a large or small dog.  Large dogs need a lot of exercise.  They also eat alot, and dog food can be expensive.  Also if your large dog is injured, it is hard to lift it in the car to take to the vet.  A small dog is the best choice to make when getting a dog.
