It seemed like an ordinary day when she got up that morning, but Lynda was about to embark on the worst day of her life. First, she fell in the bathtub because her mother forgot to rinse out the bath oil. Then she spilled orange juice on the outfit she had spent hours putting together for school pictures. When she changed, she messed up the French braid her mother had put in her hair. As she walked out the door, she dropped all of her school books and her math homework flew away. Once she made it to the car she thought everything would be all right. She was wrong; her father didn't look before he backed out of the driveway and ran into the neighbor’s truck. Lynda’s side of the car was damaged the most, and she ended up with a broken arm. That night, she cried herself to sleep.

Because toys have become electronic devices, some children today are unable to entertain themselves. Gone are the days when children invented their own adventures and used sticks as swords. cookie sheets as armor, and refrigerator box as a fortress to defend. The electronic age has delivered children all sorts of gadgets and gizmos that are supposed to be realistic. Some toys even have buttons to push so prerecorded messages can be played to begin scripted adventures that require no imagination. No imagination? No wonder some children today have short attention spans.

Several students receive poor grades on writing assignments, not because they lack the ability to communicate, but because they can not seem to manage their time when it comes to a large project. They do not know where to begin, and therefore put things off until the last minute. To solve this problem, students need to develop a timeline for completing the project. If they divide the assignment into manageable “chunks” or parts and then set a schedule for completing each part, they will be able to finish the entire project before the deadline. Without the pressure of not knowing where to begin, the students will be able to focus on the assignment and communicate their ideas effectively.

Lightning and thunder are related events. Lightning is a sudden, violent flash of electricity that occurs between a cloud and the ground or between two clouds in the sky. A lightning bolt can be several miles long and can be straight or forked. Lightning bolts are extremely hot. They have an average temperature of 20,000 degrees Celsius. Thunder is the sound that is caused by lightning. The heat from lightning causes the air to expand rapidly. This creates the sonic wave that we hear as thunder. The sound can be a loud crack or a slow rumble.

A poached egg can be a delicate and delicious breakfast or lunch option. To poach an egg, begin by adding three cups of a water and a quarter cup of white vinegar to a sauce pan. Place the pan over medium heat and let it come to a low boil or simmer. In the meantime, break one egg into a small dish. When the water is just bubbling in the pot, slide the egg into the water. Allow it to set and do not stir or disturb the water. Turn the heat down to low/medium. Let the egg cook in the simmering water for three minutes (or longer if you’d like a more firm yolk). Pull the egg from the water with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel to drain the water. Poached eggs are often served with toast.

When purchasing goods or services, most consumers have a choice of using cash or a credit card. Credit cards are very convenient. They take up very little space in most wallets, and users don’t have to worry about having enough cash on hand for an immediate purchase—as long as the credit limit is sufficient. However, while credit cards may be more convenient in the moment, paying with cash is a better long-term habit. Credit cards charge interest, which is an additional charge on top of whatever the product or service costs. If a credit card user doesn’t pay his bill immediately, the interest compounds (increases), which can make an everyday purchase turn into long-term debt. On the other hand, using cash means a person is only using only money he has and is not accumulating debt to pay in the future.Those who rely solely on cash have fewer concerns about growing debt.
