The floor plan of the Mosque of Selim II accommodates the 5 Pillars of Islam in that it 

• creates a clear pathway for pilgrims to visit relics
• includes spaces for a soup kitchen and hospital to help those less fortunate
• included a large dome to indicate the power of Islam
• provides a space for those that are fasting during Ramadan 

All mosques contain a mihrab to focus prayer in the direction of Mecca on the 

• Dome
• Minaret
• Iwan
• Quibla wall
