Genres of Writing & the Writing Process Review

The steps of the writing process include:

• Topic Sentence, Details, Transitions & Conclusion
• Pre-Write, Draft, Revise, Edit & Publish

When revising the writer should be

• improving our writing by adding or taking out ideas and evidence.
• looking for capitalization, grammar and punctuation errors. 

The 4 types/genres of writing include:

• claims, rebuttal, data & counterclaim
• historical fiction, fables, biographies & myths.
• descriptive, expository, narrative & argumentative.

Argumentative writing is when 

• sensory images are used to describe what the writer sees, hears, smells, touches, and tastes.
• you are asked to prove something

Expository writing is when 

• you are asked to prove something
• you gives steps in a process

Key words used in expository writing include

• describe, see, smell, taste, feel.
• explain, tell how.

Claims in an argumentative essays are

• the writer's stance or overall argument.
• evidence that disputes or disagrees with the writer's claim.
