Jesus Prepares for Ministry

We prepare for our future jobs by:

• sleeping/playing
• eating/drinking
• learning/studying
• watching TV

The Gospels record Jesus' ministry beginning when He:

• turns water to wine
• teaches in the temple at age 12
• dies on the cross
• gets baptized

At Jesus' baptism, we see the whole Trinity together.  How is each Person of the Trinity seen there?

• God: swimming in the Jordan River
  Jesus: flying like a bird
  Holy Spirit: baptizing the disciples
• God: talking to John and James
  Jesus: baptizing John the Baptist
  Holy Spirit: guiding the disciples
• God: speaking from the clouds and light, proud of His Son
  Jesus: being baptized by John, His cousin
  Holy Spirit: coming down in the form of a dove, and resting on Jesus' shoulder
• God: being put underwater by John the Baptist
  Jesus: calling His disciples to come see the Baptism
  Holy Spirit: flying around like a bird and landing on John's shoulder

John's baptism was of:

• salvation
• repentance
• revelation
• reconciliation

What does temptation mean?

• making a wrong choice
• liking sin so much that you do it all the time
• making someone sin
• an attempt to get someone to do something wrong

Why was Jesus tempted?

• to show that He is just as easily deceived as anyone else
• so that He can fully understand what it is like to be human
• because He had always made the right choices and Satan was jealous
• so that Satan could see Him perform miracles

What is the only offensive (attack, not protect) weapon that we as Christians have to use?

• the sWORD of the Spirit
• the shield of faith
• shoes of the Gospel
• helmet of salvation

What did Jesus use to respond to the temptations that Satan presented Him with?

• miracles
• power
• Scripture

What were the three temptations that Satan presented to Jesus in the desert?

• 1. turn stones into bread to satisfy hunger
  2. jump off temple and have angels rescue Him
  3. worship Satan to receive all the kingdoms of the world

  3. be saved by all the power He has as God
