Energy

Energy can be classified into two main categories, kinetic energy and potential energy.  Kinetic energy is when an object is:

• standing still
• actively doing something
• changing states of matter
• objects do not have kinetic energy

When a hot object touches a cooler object, heat energy is transferred from the warmer object to the cooler object through:

• radiation
• electrical energy
• conduction
• solar heating

You and your family are sitting around a campfire.  You can feel the heat on your face, even when you back your seat away from the fire.  The heat energy from the fire warms your face through:

• light energy from the fire
• conduction
• chemical reactions in the fire
• radiation
