Football Vocabulary

The kick-off is when teams ...  

• kick the ball to the other half of the pitch.

The verb to trap the ball is when you ...  

• get control of the ball with your chest.
• avoid getting hit by the ball.

What does it mean to dribble the ball?  

• It is kicking the ball.
• It is running with the ball at your feet.
• It is moving the ball forward with your head.
• It is running for a pass from another player.

A ‘one-two’... 

• is when 2 players pass between each other many times.
• is passing to a player then running into space for the player to pass back to you.
• means passing to a player with 2 kicks.
• means scoring 2 goals.

What is a goal-kick? 

• It is kicking the ball to the goal.
• It is scoring a goal.
• It is taken by the defending team when the ball goes behind the goal-line.

‘Marking’ is when ...
