Chapter 12 Restraint Alternatives and Restraints

Physical restraints are not used until

• Less restrictive alternatives have not worked

What will help you to prevent injuries and help you place the restraint on properly

• Ask a coworker
• Ask the resident how to apply the restraint
• look at the roommate's restraint and do it the same way
• HMMM maybe read the manufacturer's instructions

Persons in restraints are checked

• every 2 hours
• every 15 minutes
• every 30 mnutes
• whenever you have time (DUH)

When restraints are released and taken off how long are they left off

• 30 minutes
• 10 minutes
• as long as person wants
• you never release them
