3 mins • 1 pt
Text evidence:
Ryan was looking forward to sleeping over at his friend Robert's house. Though they had been classmates for a while, the two had only recently become good friends. Ryan packed up his sleeping bag, a pillow, and a few of his favorite toys and games, and then his mom dropped him off at Robert's. Robert met Ryan on the porch and the two did their secret handshake and started playing right away. First they played pirates in Robert's tree fort. Next they played ninjas in the driveway. Then it started getting dark and they went inside of Robert's house. As soon as they walked in the house, Ryan's eyes starting getting red and itchy. He saw a big orange cat sitting on the couch. Then he started sneezing uncontrollably. "I'm sorry, Robert. It's been a lot of fun, but I have to call my mom."
Why did Ryan's eyes get red and itchy when he walked into Robert's house?

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION
3 mins • 1 pt
Text evidence:
Kyle ran into his house, slamming the door behind him. He threw his book bag on the floor and plopped on the couch. After six hours of playing Grand Larceny VII, he ate some pizza and fell asleep with a slice in on his belly and his feet on his book bag. When Kyle came home from school the next day, he was noticeably worried. He crumpled up his report card and placed it inside of a soup can in the garbage. He then flipped the soup can upside down and relocated garbage from other parts of the can, arranging over the soup can. He then plopped down on the couch and picked up his controller.
Why is Kyle so upset?

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION
2 mins • 1 pt
Text evidence:
Cassie rolled over in her bed as she felt the sunlight hit her face. The beams were warming the back of her neck when she slowly realized that it was a Thursday, and she felt a little too good for a Thursday. Struggling to open her eyes, she looked up at the clock. "9:48," she shouted,"Holy cow!"
Cassie jumped out of bed, threw on the first outfit that she grabbed, brushed her teeth in two swipes, threw her books into her backpack, and then ran out the door.
Cassie is late to school. How do you know this?

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION
5 mins • 1 pt
Text evidence:
Do you know what a political party is? It has nothing to do with birthdays. A political party is a group of people who have similar ideas about what the government should do. They work together to elect people of their party into government office.
The United States has two big political parties. One is the Democratic Party. The other is the Republican Party. Many other, smaller parties also exist.
Political parties in the United States nominate, or choose, the people they want to elect. Once those people are chosen, party members work to win votes for their candidates. Party members want their candidates to be the ones making laws and the ones carrying out those laws.
The Democratic Party is the United States’ oldest political party. It began nearly two hundred years ago. Democrats who became president include Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
The Republican Party began in the 1850s. It was nicknamed the “Grand Old Party,” or GOP. Republican presidents have included George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush.
Many Americans are members of a political party. No one has to be a member of any party to vote in an election, however. In the end, the voters decide which candidates get elected.
Based on the text, how are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party different?
