A civil case in federal courts, a person has a right to a jury trial if the case deals with more than $20. This right can be waived.

People have rights expressed in the constitution but also have rights not expressed in the Constitution.

A person can be tried for a serious crime if they’ve been indicted. They cannot face double jeopardy. They don’t have to self-incriminate. The Due Process Clause stops the government from unfair, arbitrary actions. The government is allowed to take public property but has to pay a fair price for it.

People have the freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and to petition the government.

The courts have to set bail at a reasonable level compared to the crime. Fines cannot be excessive. This also prohibits cruel and unusual punishment being sentenced for a crime.

No soldier shall demand quarters without the consent of the owner.

Police cannot search for or seize evidence or seize persons without a warrant. Evidence gained in an unlawful search cannot be used in court.

Powers not given to the National Government and powers not forbidden are given to the States or the people of each State.

A person charged with a crime cannot be held with delay and must have an impartial jury. They must be informed of the charge they are being held for. They can cross-examine a witness, call a witness on their behalf, and be represented by a lawyer.
