After Ben admits that he let the snakes out, Mrs. Tibbits shares a secret with Ben.  What secret does she share?

• She doesn't mind that he let he snakes out because she didn't want them any more.

Why does Ben email Massachusetts Endangered Species Program?

• He is hoping to get an internship and work there this summer.
• Ben is going to report that Mrs. Tibbits is not taking care of the spadefoot toads.
• Ben is hoping to somehow prevent Tabitha from being able to sell the land because the spadefoots are endangered.
• He wants them to come out see the Toads.

What happened in the book that leads us to believe that Ryan and Ben are becoming good friends?

• Ben stood up for Ryan when Frankie was picking on Ryan.  Then Ryan stood up for Ben even after Ryan thought Ben was making fun of his eye.
• Ryan is moving away and Ben was very upset.
• Ben showed Ryan the secret vernal pool where the spadetoads live.
• Ben invited Ryan to his birthday party.

What does Mrs. Tibbits think happened to the timber rattler snakes?

• They are living somewhere on the land.

Suddenly Ben understands. Mr. Nickleby isn't mad at him. He's mad at Mrs. Tibbets. "She told me not to!" Ben tries to keep his voice under control. "I wasn't supposed to go near them. It wasn't her fault!

"All right," says Mr. Nickelby, shifting in his chair. "I think I've got a pretty good picture of what happened.

• Mr. Nickelby is going to help Ben and Mrs. Tibbits save the land.

• Mr. Nickelby understands that Mrs. Tibbits warned Ben not to go over to the snake cage.

• Mr. Nickelby is trying to find a reason to fire Mrs. Tibbits.

• Mrs. Tibbits should not be allowed to have students over to her house.
