The Hiding Place Chapters 5 and 6

What was the Dutch Underground? What was its purpose?

• To fight back against the Nazi occupation, save Jews, advocate for those without a voice, and give knowledge back to the people of Holland

• To blow up bridges, homes, and factories run or owned by Nazi sympathizers

• To spread Christianity across Holland in a time of crisis

• To keep Dutch and Jewish shops open

In the beginning of Chapter 5, the ten Booms listen to a broadcast over the Radio. Papa uncharacteristically looses his temper and yells. Why does he do this?

• A. He is angry because the speaker has announced war.

• B. He is angry because he fears for his family and his home.

• C. He is angry because the speaker is misleading everyone- he knows there WILL be war, and that Holland will fall

• D. This doesn't happen. Papa ten Boom never yells.

Later that night, Corrie awakens from a bad dream. What does her dream symbolize (this actually happens at the end of chapter 9).

• A. Her dream symbolizes the horses breaking free from their war carriages.
