• Largest imperial state of the Western Hemisphere
• Mostly Bureaucratic, emperor on top, regarded as divine. Each province had a governor.

Inca Empire

• Located in the Andes, 10 million subjects, larger than the Aztecs, spoke Quechua.
• Largest imperial state on land 
• Was in current Mexico

• Featured many water based infrastructure, inculuded pyramids almost 200 ft high. Had a population of 150,000-200,000 people. (page 523)
• Patron deity of the Aztec empire, associated with the sun. Requires the life-giving force in human blood to replenish energy and not send the empire into catastrophy.
• Prominent official who advocated for human sacrifice.
