Read the following passage...
In the track of the hurricane much damage was done. Fences and stone walls were blown down, and the stalks of Indian corn were bent over and broken off near the ground. Hay in the fields was suddenly whisked up, and scattered over adjoining territory for a mile away, being lost. As the wind increased in force many large apple and other kinds of trees were torn up by the roots ; in some instances enclosing animals in such a manner that they could not get away by their efforts alone, though they were not injured.
A large portion of the roof of the church, and boards from tile roofs and sides of several other buildings were carried away. Several dwelling houses were shattered, and two or three buildings were entirely destroyed. In the space covered by the wind was a house, with a wing which was garrisoned. The whirlwind swept down upon the garrison with such violence that it was instantly demolished, three of its sides falling to the ground.

Tanner and Jonathen are extremely competitive. When the bake sale came at school they made a little bet that each of them would sell the most goods. Jonathen started off early in the morning selling baked goods to students. Tanner did not get started until lunch time each day. The first thing we did at summer camp was take a swim test. Anyone who passed got to take the sailboats out on the lake whenever they wanted. After taking five years of swimming lessons, it should have been easy. 
However, the lake was ice cold, and when I dove into the water, I felt like my whole body turned into a freezer pop. 
I swam to the floating island and back, shivering the whole time. I was so cold I could hardly move my arms. When I finished, the coach said I wouldn’t be allowed to go sailing. “Safety first,” he said. 
Somehow, I had to convince the coach to let me try again. “Hold on,” I said. “Let me take the test again in five minutes.” 
The coach gave me a curious look, but said, “Okay.”
Immediately, I took off running. I ran along the shore of the lake, building up as much body heat as I could. Then, feeling warmed up, I ran back to the coach. 
“Ready,” I said. 
The coach smiled. 
After I easily passed the test the second time, the coach shook my hand. “Didn’t anybody tell you the lake was freezing cold?” he laughed.
