Why did the Israelites go to Aaron and ask him to make them a god to worship?

Moses pleaded with God to forgive them. Why?

Moses went down the mountain carrying the two stone Tablets. What happened when he saw what the Israelites were doing?

Moses was angry with Aaron, he destroyed the golden calf and the next day he went back up the mountain to speak with God. What did Moses want to tell God?
