Fern came almost every day to visit him. . . . Here she sat quietly during the long afternoons, thinking and listening and watching Wilbur. The sheep soon got to know her and trust her. Which author's purpose is suggested by the text?
Hillsboro's softball team suffered its first loss of the season on May 3, losing 2–1 to Newton's tenth-ranked team. It was Hillsboro's first loss in sixteen games.
Hillsboro did put in a strong showing. Hillsboro's pitcher was in top form, striking out fifteen, walking two, and yielding only two hits. However, Hillsboro struggled to get hits off of Newton's junior pitcher, who yielded only five hits. Newton scored the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two down, a batter walked, advanced on a base hit, and scored when an outfielder dropped the ball.
"Sometimes you have to lose to put things in perspective," Hillsboro's Coach Hanson said.
