When writing a response to the text, what should your writing piece have?

• Text Evidence to back up your claim

• An introduction

• A conclusion

• Punctuation (. , ! ?)

What should you do to make sure you have the correct text evidence in your writing piece?

• Reread parts of the text to find the important parts to use in your writing

• Answer as quickly as possible. Writing FAST shows you're awesome!

• Look at the person's computer next to you to see what you should add

• Highlight the whole text so it stands out

What is text evidence?

• Important information from the text that helps you answer a question

• What kind of punctuation is used at the end of a sentence

• The choice of words that the author uses in the text

• Your opinion about how you liked what you read

How should you read the text when taking the FORWARD exam?

• As FAST as possible! Speed shows that I'm SOOO smart!

• Take your time. There is NO timer on this test!

• Take notes about the important parts of the story as you read

• Skip words you don't know. Who cares.

• Add words you DO know (that will fit correctly) if you don't know a word while you're reading

Why would you use the underline tool when taking the reading FORWARD exam?

• To keep track of where you are in the text and help you focus on each line.

• To drag up and down when I get bored

• I don't know. I don't really care.

What should I do if I start to "dentist read" (or become unfocused) during the FORWARD exam?

• Take a breath -- take a small break

• Put my head down for a short, little while to get focused again

• Talk to other test takers nearby

• Get out of my seat and walk around

• Close my eyes, give myself a pep talk, and keep on going

What should you do in the opening sentence of a writing response after reading the text?

• Start your opening sentence with "Well..."

• Restate the question in your opening answer

• Get right into the details with your opening sentence

• Start your opening sentence with "This is what they did..."

What do you do before you click to "end the test?"

• Raise your hand for Mr. Z; so, we can make sure you answered every question there was

• Click as quickly as you can. You're done with that exam!

• Ask other test takers nearby if they are done too
