Why might a scientist be inclined to use the SI system of measurement?

• The SI system makes it easier to communicate results with other scientists

• The SI system includes commonly used units such as feet, cups, and pounds.

• To convert between SI units, you only need to multiply or divide by powers of 10.

• BOTH A and C (Not the feet, cups, and pounds answer)

In order to be used as a conversion factor, a fraction MUST:

• Be composed of two numbers with the same unit

• Have the same value on the top and the bottom so that the fraction’s value is equal to one.

• Involve values that are easy to recognize as correct

• Cancel out both of the units involved.

The last digit of any measurement is considered to be significant because:

• It is measured with absolute certainty

• It is a guess

• It is estimated within a degree of error

• It is a zero

When any scientific information is found to be incorrect:

• Revisions are made to the current model to incorporate new information

• The scientist who first discovered the information is disgraced

• The current model is thrown out and replaced by a new model

• Schools and universities buy new textbooks
