Comet Culture Do's and Dont's

What should I do if I will be absent on a Comet Culture lesson day?

• Scream!

• Contact Mrs. Nowak or Ms. Rehmert as soon as I know so they can arrange for an alternate to be in the classroom with me

• Just don't show up and hope my partner (if I have one) will figure it out

• Arrange for someone else to take my place

What should I do to prepare for each lesson? Select ALL that apply

• Re-read the lesson plan and power point prior to the day of the lesson

• Purchase candy to bring to share with students who participate and give correct answers (optional)

• Think about my own personal stories and experiences to share with the class, realizing the more real and open I am to sharing, the more likely other students will as well.

• Think about questions that I could add to the lesson to get students talking

What should I do on the day of the Comet Culture lesson?

• Wear my t-shirt, it is my hall pass

• Show up to my assigned classroom at the last minute without having read and thought through the lesson plan

• Go to a different classroom where my friends are hanging out

• Leave the CC lesson early and wander the halls

What should I do as I lead the Comet Culture lessons, particularly if I have a group of students that does not want to engage in the lesson? Select all that apply.

• Remain positive

• Ask the teacher for help with grouping students into small groups to get more participation

• Call on students. If you don't know their name, point and indicate who you are calling on.

• Bring along candy and use it to positively reinforce students who are participating and giving answers.

• Not necessarily. Room assignments are chosen randomly and based upon where needs are in the building.

• Not necessarily. Rooms that are more challenging (the gym, shop classes, etc) are usually assigned partners.
