Character Development

Mr. Lawson was in the kitchen eating his dinner and watching TV. He was watching Jeopardy and trying to think of the answer to the question when all of a sudden a piece of meet got lodged in his throat! He started choking and was losing air fast. He stood up and threw himself against the counter to force the meat up and it worked! Mr. Lawson lived! He was so thankful he thought to use the Heimlich maneuver.

Mr. Kern is very old, but most of his friends are very young (like Mr. Lawson), and Mr. Kern wanted to find a way to seem more "hip" and "cool" and "young" so that his friends wouldn't think he was so old. So, he went and got a fresh new haircut, some cool clothes, roller blades, a pop socket, a drone, and a PS4.

He then invited all of his friends over to his house to hang out and try out his new stuff. Everyone came and they had a good time, but they asked why he was buying all of this stuff, and he said it was because he didn't want to be old, and he wanted to be cool. His friends told him he was cool because he was old. He didn't need to buy new things to be their friend. They liked him for who he was. Mr. Kern was so happy that he was finally able to relax and he sat on his couch and fell asleep.

One day Ms. Waits was walking down the 6th grade hallway on her way to lunch. When she walked into teacher's lounge, she found no one else was there yet. She was the first one! This never happened, and this was a big deal because the school had bought all the teachers lunch today and it was pizza! Ms. Waits found herself overcome with hunger and realized what she wanted to do. She wanted ALL of the pizza. She grabbed every pizza box and sneaked out the back door. She ran outside and around the school and made it back to her room and locked the door without anyone noticing. She ate all of the pizza and was so full that she couldn't move. But when the teachers came to the teacher's lounge looking for the pizza, they noticed she was the only one that wasn't there. They made their way to her room and found her with all of the pizza boxes completely empty. Ms. Waits was arrested for the theft of the other teacher's happiness and hope and was sentenced to buy each teacher their favorite kind of pizza forever.

How did Ms. Waits character develop throughout the story?

• Ms. Waits was excited for lunch, but she found out it was pizza and immediately became disappointed. She then found out it was good and was sad she missed out.

• Ms. Waits was angry for lunch, and when she found out it was pizza, she stole all of it for herself. She was then arrested and glad she committed the crime.

• Ms. Waits was scared for lunch, and when she found out it was pizza, she screamed and ran for her life. She ran so far that she made it to her house.
