Bava Metziah for Aryeh

The first mishna deals with a case in which each guy is grabbing on to a talis and saying

• אני מצאתיה

• אתה מצאתיה

The mishna says that the solution is that

• each guy should swear he owns the whole talis

• each guy should swear he owns half the talis

• each guy should swear he doesn't own less than half the talis

• each guy should swear he doesn't own less than the whole talis

Once the oath is taken, the din is יחלוקו. This means that..

• They should split the use of the talis

• They should split the talis in half

• They should sell the talis and split the money

• all of the above

• the first and third answers

If one of the guys claims he owns half and the other says he owns the whole talis, the mishna says that the solution is

• each swears he owns no less than half

• both swear they own no less than all of it

• neither swears at all

• one swears he owns no less than 3 quarters, the other swears he owns no less than 1 quarter

If two guys were riding on the back of a (lost) animal, or if one is riding and the other is leading it...

• they each swear that they don't own less than a quarter, and split it

• they each swear that they don't own less than a half and split it

• they each swear that they own the whole animal, and split it

If they have עדים that they jumped on the animal at the same time,

• they divide the animal after an oath

• they divide the animal with no need for an oath

If Reuven is riding on the back of a donkey, and sees a lost object on the ground, and says to Shimon "give that to me"...

• the moment Shimon picks it up it's acquired by Reuven

• the moment Shimon picks it up it's NOT acquired by Reuven, and Shimon can keep it for himself

If Reuven is riding on the back of a donkey, and sees a lost object on the ground, and says to Shimon "acquire that for me"...

• the moment Shimon picks it up it's acquired by Reuven

• the moment Shimon picks it up it's NOT acquired by Reuven, and Shimon can keep it for himself

Reuven sees a lost object and pounces on it - but loses control, and Shimon grabs it and holds on to it. Whose object is it?

• Reuven's, since he came within ד' אמות of it and the rabbis awarded it to him

• Shimon's, since Reuven has 'opted out' of taking advantage of his ד' אמות to acquire it

Reuven sees a lame deer or chicks that can't yet fly running through his field, who says זכתה לי שדי - my field will merit it for me! ....

• acquires it when they enter his field

• does not acquire it when they enter his field
