MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

Which one if these is the best paraphrase of the section "the Kitchen"?

Today we have many improved ways to preserve food, including preservatives, fridges, and freezers. These items have for the most part replaced the older methods of drying, smoking, pickling, and salting food.

The French chef, Nicolas Appert (1750-1841) invented tinning, which to this day remains a very popular way of preserving food. Until gas cookers became cheap and popular in the 1870s, people had cooking fires.

Methods such as refrigeration and tinning have replaced older ways of preserving food and today allow people to shop far less often. Gas and electric stoves as well as microwaves have replaced cooking fires.

In the past, shopping had to be done daily, as not all foods could be preserved with the methods available, which included smoking and salting. Microwaves are very popular today but were not invented until 1967.
