Define Code of Ethics:

• a guide that effective leaders use to set the professional tone and behavior.

• an employer pays an employee well.

• behavior where the public reacts to an officer.

• a set of rules that each officer comes up with.

The mission of Law Enforcement includes:

• fight crime, enforce laws and make arrests.

• fight crime, serve and protect and enforce laws

• serve and protect, enforce laws and be visibly seen

• promote public safety, enforce laws and do neighborhood watch.

What is Ethics ?

• Where a person is in society socially.

• Who & how a person was raised in the home.

• a way people perceive you based off what you do and don't say.

• A code of values which guides our choices and determines the purposes and courses of our lives

If ethics are NOT important in Law Enforcement who/what can suffer?

• your Career

• community view

• innocent people

What is Corruption?

• When policy written in a department is not proven to be true.

• When the community is disrespectful and unresponsive to law & order.

• exploiting one’s position for personal gain at the expense of those one is authorized to serve

What is Discrimination?

• a decision-maker treats a group or individual differently from others for no justifiable reason.

• when you catch another officer drinking on the job and not report them.

• when a person is picked for a job based solely on education and experience.

• a law only referring to African American and Asian rights.

What is Racial Profiling ?

• it is a profile breakdown of the different races a person is.

• when an officer arrests a person because of his race.

• when the judge convicts only a certain race & crime.

• stopping an individual based solely on racial characteristics

Every decision we make should be assessed through application of the following questions:

• Is it legal?

• Is it fair to all concerned?

• How will the decision make me feel about myself?
