L2 Speaking and Listening

For Level 2 Speaking and Listening each learner has to

• Take part in two formal discussions

• Listen to a recording and answer questions

• Give a presentation on the topic of their choice and take part in a formal discussion

• Give a presentation and take part in an informal discussion

During the presentation you should

• Speak for two minutes in front of the whole class and answer questions on your presentation

• Speak for four minutes in front of your tutor

• Speak for four to five minutes in front of a group of three or four students and answer questions on your presentation

• Speak to another person for four or five minutes

During the presentation you are allowed to

• Refer to your notes

• Prepare a speech and read it

• Read from your notes throughout the presentation

• Read from your powerpoint if you have one

What should you do when you are watching other people's presentations?

• Listen carefully and think of a relevant question to ask during the question and answer session

• Fidget and nudge the person next to you

• Make notes while you are listening

• Think about what you are going to say during your presentation

Why do you need to ask a question after watching someone's presentation?
