How did geography shape the Roman World?

• There were many rivers for them to use, allowing easy access to water and transportation.

• The land was made up of large, fertile, flat plains so growing crops were easy

• The terrain(land) was easy to march across so taking over the peninsula was easy

• There were many earthquakes which made it hard to build large structures.

What is a Republic?

• A form of government in which one person has absolute power.

• A form of government in which a person is chosen by the gods to rule.

• A form of government in which citizens have the right to vote and elect officials.

What is Diplomacy?

• The ability to handle relationships and increase hostility

• The ability to handle relationships without increasing hostility.

• The ability to persuade someone to do anything you want.

• The ability to feel empathy towards another person.

What were Rome’s natural advantages?

• The cities seven hills gave it a natural defense.

• It's location on the Tiber River, it had easy access to water.

• Rome was located on a key trade route.

• They were founded by two boys raised by a Wolf!

How was the Roman Republic founded?

• In 509 BCE, they overthrew the king and formed the Republic, as they were tired of leaders mistreating them.

• In 509 BCE, they peacefully transitioned from a King to a republic.

• In 500 BCE, they elected a King who decided to transition their government to a Republic.

• In 509 BCE, they were conquered by the Athenians and became a Republic.

Who were the Romans Influenced by? What did they Borrow?

• They were influenced by the Greek Gods and took them as their own. They renamed them, for example Zeus was now named Jupiter.

• Athens influenced Roman Government, the Romans have a Democracy modeled after Athens.

• The Romans Adopted Greek legends, Romulus and Remus are the ancestors of a Greek hero.

• They borrowed the Etruscan alphabet and created their own from it.

How did Rome Expand?

• The Romans large beasts like Elephants or Rhinoceroses to trample their enemies.

• The Romans had an advanced military. Advanced formations allowed for more flexibility on the battlefield

• The Roman soldiers were advanced builders. They built roads and bridges to help armies move faster.

• The Roman army borrowed from their enemies, anything that seemed useful they would use in their army.
