Seno Gumira Aji Dharma was born in Solo, 1951. Born in the middle of military background. His family disagree when he stated, he will be a writer. His father wanted him to join TNI Academy Program, but he strongly refushed his father's wish. When he was 20, he went to Yogyakarta to look for a job. After the 5th year of his settlement in Yogyakarta he was officially worked in Gading Press Publishing Company.

His passing to Yogyakarta was mainly coused by the greadpressue of his family that forced him to join the army. The conflict did't make him stop to make good writing. Some of his articles were published in Kompas 2 years after his arrival in Yogyakarta, sach as Penembak Misterius, Tentang Alinta, Orang Miskin Dilarang Mandi, etc.
