(8 January 1942 – 14 March 2018) He was a British cosmologist (someone who studies the structure of the universe). He invented important theories about the Big Bang, black holes and how they work. He predicted that black holes eject some radiation (energy), even though they normally swallow everything. That kind of radiation is named "Hawking Radiation."

He built the first practical reflecting telescope in 1668. He also developed a theory of light based on the observation that a prism decomposes white light into the colors of the rainbow.
