Interviewing

Before attending any interview you should

• Make sure you have an appropriate interview outfit ironed and ready to impress.

• Print out multiple copies of my resume and references to bring to interview.

• Research the company with whom I am interviewing and make sure I know as much as possible about the company and position for which I am interviewing.

• Create questions I can ask during the interview about the company and/or the position

• All of the above

If participating in a webcam interview what should you NOT do?

• Test the software before the interview

• Wear whatever you want since the Interviewer won't really see what you are wearing.

• Make sure you have appropriate lighting.

• Pay attention to what can be seen behind you and make sure televisions are off, phones are muted, and other people do not interfere.

During any interview you should

• Not think about your posture.

• Avoid nervous movements with your hands such as clicking pens and tapping fingers.

• Stare the interviewers down and don't break eye contact

• Sit down in the first seat I see

If asked about a previous employer or teacher with whom you have had a negative relationship you should

• Be honest and talk about the previous employer or teacher. Let them know what I did not like about them.

• Focus on the positive of any situation you are asked about.

Topics you should not discuss in an interview

• Your qualifications for the job or position.

• Politics and/or religion

• Your past experiences

During an interview when they ask you "do you have any questions/" You should

• say "no, you gave me all of the information I need."

• say "yes" and follow up with a question or questions specific to the company or position for which you are interviewing.

Within 24 hours of attending an interview you should send a thank you email to those who interviewed you.

Sometime before the actual interview it is important to:

• Drive to the interview location, go in and speak with the receptionist.

• Call the employer with whom you are interviewing to ask questions.

• Drive to the interview location so you are sure you know where it is located and how long it will take you to get there.

You should arrive (in the parking lot) to an interview location when?

• At least an hour before the interview

• At least 15-20 minutes before the interview

• At least 30 minutes or more before an interview

• 5 minutes before an interview

You should walk into the actual place of business for an interview when?

• Right on time! If my interview is at 8:00 a.m. I arrive at 8:00 a.m.

• 15 minutes before the interview

• 20 minutes before the interview

• No more than 5-10 mins before interview time.
