Lou was a tiny dog. He loved to run and play in the park. One day, his owner, Annie, was not watching closely and Lou ran a little too far.

He ran until he no longer heard the familiar sounds of Annie’s voice. He looked back but he couldn’t see Annie anywhere. He began to get scared until he heard a noise in the bushes at the edge of the park. He had to find that sound, so he ran straight to the bushes.

Once in the bushes, he found a mother skunk and three of her babies. Thinking they looked like fun playmates, he ran up to the mother skunk. “My name is Lou”, he barked. To his surprise, the mother skunk made a loud sound, sprayed him with a terrible smell and ran away.

The sun settled below the horizon. Lou decided he was really scared and missed Annie. He walked through the park for hours, trying to sniff out her scent. It began to get dark and Lou started to whine.

Finally, he heard a sound far away. It was a little girl with a flashlight. It was his little girl. She was calling his name over and over. Lou ran as fast as he could towards her. When he reached her, she picked him up and hugged him. Lou thought, “Annie loves me so much, she doesn’t even mind the smell.”
