In this genre the audience is given serious presentations or stories with settings or life situations that portray realistic characters in conflict with either themselves, others, or forces of nature. This type of genre shows us human beings at their best, their worst, and everything in-between.

This genre is intended to frighten, scare, or disgust it’s audience. Often the central menace of a story on this type of genre can be interpreted as a metaphor for the larger fears of a society.

This genre of literary fiction includes beings and phenomena that are outside the realm of normal scientific understanding of the natural world. Though this genre may include supernaturalist elements, this fiction genre generally includes creatures that have been popularized by folklore, fairy tales, and popular culture, such as fairies, aliens, shapeshifters, and the undead (ghosts, zombies etc.).

This genre represents reality by portraying mundane, everyday experiences as they are in real life. It depicts familiar people, places, and stories.
