As a child at the age of two, my sister and I had pictures taken together. My sister and I are ten months and three weeks apart. In this special family picture was look identical. Our big, dark blue and brown eyes and smile resemble two calm little girls, enjoying the moment with peaceful smiles on our faces. In our long, dark red and blue dresses we sit straight up in front of a warn red fireplace surrounded by green plants. Our dark brown, wavy hair even matched. We both had baby pink bows off to the side of our heads that resemble a blooming flower. Growing up our family consisted of our father, my sister, and I. My sister and I have both been there for each other through “the thick and the thin.” My photograph pf my sister and reveals how close we are in age and through this paragraph it also reveals how close we are when it comes to love and friendship.

A first date can end up being categorized as successful, a clingy, a boastful or awkward. Successful first dates include both parties expressing information about what they like, who they are, and so forth. Usually, these dates will end in tentative plans for a second one. Clingy dates end up with one of the parties practically begging for information about the other. However, the non-clinger is not interested. On boastful dates, one member of the duo talks about all of his or her skills, talents, and abilities. The listening end of the pair is never asked about his or her life. Awkward first dates generally involve lots of silence or one or both of the partners not knowing how to act appropriately. While many dates occur every day, they can generally fall into one of these categories.

I learned early on in life that being naughty is not fun for long. At the time, I lived with my family in a newly developed part of North Vancouver. There were plenty of houses around, but there were also patches of woodland and bush. We children loved to disappear into the trees and play exciting or even violent games based on TV shows and novels we were exposed to. One day I went in with my friend Patrick. There were only the two of us. Somehow we started throwing rocks out of the bush and over onto the road. One of our rocks hit a passing car on the roof. The driver stopped and looked down the path to where we stood somewhere between mirth and dread. We started to run down another path, but he drove up to where that path met the road. We ran back the other way and he backed up to cut us off. He rolled down his window and scolded us. We were terrified. Then he drove off. Neither of us was laughing now. Once I got over the shock of nearly being caught by an angry stranger, I thought about why he was angry and decided that throwing rocks blindly in any direction was neither smart nor nice.

A smartphone is a combination of three devices: a cell phone, a GPS unit and a computer. As a cell phone, it can make and receive phone calls as long as it in range of a service which accepts its number. As a GPS unit, it can tell its user its exact location on the planet. As a computer, it has powerful hardware and software which allow the user to perform many of the tasks he or she might perform on larger computers, such as tablets, notebooks and desktop PCs. The hardware includes a touch screen, one or two cameras (front and back), a wireless internet card, a processor, a graphics processing unit and flash memory. The software includes an operating system, a word processor, applications for tracking the weather or the stock market, and a map and compass. The keyboard is accessed through the screen. The combination of all these things is what makes a smartphone smart.

The movie Avatar was the most expensive movie ever made. It also made more money in theatres than every movie in history but one. But although it was impressive to look at, it was not all that interesting to watch.

Avatar was one of those movies that focus on special effects. In this case, the movie makers combined live action, motion capture and computer-generated images so seamlessly that everything looks like a combination of all three. The live actors look slightly computer generated and the computer-generated characters look very close to real. Even the eyes look right. Unfortunately, the story and technology, while not dull, are far from original. The story is almost the same as that of Dances with Wolves and the futuristic helicopters are right out of The Incredibles.

The movie is worth seeing and I plan to buy the DVD, but only for the special effects, not for the story or technology. If they do a sequel, I hope it has a more imaginative plot and some machines we have never seen before

I have four brothers, but I am closest to my second brother, Jonathon. That is because we are similar in many ways. However, we are also different in many ways.

We both look a lot like our father, but Jon is better looking than I am. We are both muscular, because we lift weights, but Jon is taller than I am. We both sing, but I write songs and play guitar while Jon does not write songs or play a musical instrument. We both speak foreign languages, including French, but Jon speaks Italian while I speak Russian and Mandarin. We both live in foreign countries, but Jon lives in Abu Dhabi while I live in Taiwan. Everyone needs a break from their normal routine. Workers, students, housewives—people in any role feel better and enjoy life more if they can occasionally get away from daily life. Allowing myself to follow my internal clock is one of the best ways I know to get refreshed for another round of work.

I have just come back from a Chinese New Year break that lasted nearly a week. During that time, I stayed up late most nights, slept in most mornings and some afternoons, and did not even go to bed at all one night. I read when I wanted to read, exercised when I wanted to exercise, and spent two days and a night focused on one project.

Following my natural rhythm for a week relieved almost all the stress of schedules and deadlines I experience most of the time. Now I feel refreshed and ready to go back to my workaday existence for a while.

On Thursday there was a big earthquake. The earthquake broke many things. It broke my piggy bank.

The earth shook and that made our building jump. When the building jumped, it made my desk jump. When my desk jumped, it made my piggy bank jump. When my piggy bank jumped, it also moved across the desk. When it moved to the edge of the desk, it fell to the floor. Because the floor was harder and heavier than my piggy bank and my piggy bank was heavy and moving fast, when my piggy bank hit the floor, it broke.

Many things happened to make my piggy bank fall on the floor, but all those things were caused by the earthquake. So that the next earthquake doesn’t break my piggy bank, I will put my new piggy bank on a folded towel, which will stop it from jumping across the desk and falling on the floor.
