The Three Rules

Once there was a rich man in Thailand. His name was Chulong. He was very wealthy. 1 (a)  

A “Certainly,” said the bird.

B Chulong released the bird.

C Yet he wanted more riches, more money.

D “What is the use of the rules? I want only money,” said Chulong.

E Chulong began to sing like a bird.

F “I will not tell you the rules,” said the bird.

G “I want to make money. I can sell you for a big amount,” replied Chulong.

H Chulong’s hopes of making money were shattered.

One day, he was walking in his garden. He saw a very small and beautiful bird. He slowly went near the bush and caught the bird. “Why have you caught me?” the bird asked. 2. (a)  

A “Certainly,” said the bird.

B Chulong released the bird.

C Yet he wanted more riches, more money.

D “What is the use of the rules? I want only money,” said Chulong.

E Chulong began to sing like a bird.

F “I will not tell you the rules,” said the bird.

G “I want to make money. I can sell you for a big amount,” replied Chulong.

H Chulong’s hopes of making money were shattered.

“But you are already rich. Why do you want more?” asked the bird. “I want to become richer,” replied Chulong. “Don’t dream of making money through me!” said the bird. “Nobody will buy me, because, during imprisonment, I lost my beauty and my sweet voice.” Then it slowly turned into a black bird. 3. (a)  

A “Certainly,” said the bird.

B Chulong released the bird.

C Yet he wanted more riches, more money.

D “What is the use of the rules? I want only money,” said Chulong.

E Chulong began to sing like a bird.

F “I will not tell you the rules,” said the bird.

G “I want to make money. I can sell you for a big amount,” replied Chulong.

H Chulong’s hopes of making money were shattered.

The bird then suggested, “Well set me free. In return, I shall teach you three simple but useful rules.” 4. (a)   . Chulong was irritated. “But these rules can profit you greatly,” added the bird. “Profit me! Really? Then I shall set you free. But how can I trust you? You may fly away,” said Chulong. “I give you my word. And I always keep my word,” said the bird.

A “Certainly,” said the bird.

B Chulong released the bird.

D “What is the use of the rules? I want only money,” said Chulong.

E Chulong began to sing like a bird.

F “I will not tell you the rules,” said the bird.

G “I want to make money. I can sell you for a big amount,” replied Chulong.

H Chulong’s hopes of making money were shattered.

5. (a)   It flew up to a tree branch at once. Its colour started to change. It became

beautiful once again. Chulong said, “Now teach me the rules.”

A “Certainly,” said the bird.

B Chulong released the bird.

C Yet he wanted more riches, more money.

D “What is the use of the rules? I want only money,” said Chulong.

E Chulong began to sing like a bird.

F “I will not tell you the rules,” said the bird.

G “I want to make money. I can sell you for a big amount,” replied Chulong.

H Chulong’s hopes of making money were shattered.

6. (a)   Then it added, “The first rule is that you should not believe everything

others say. The second rule is, you should not be sad about something you do not have. The third rule is you should not throw away what you have in your hand.”

A “Certainly,” said the bird.

B Chulong released the bird.

C Yet he wanted more riches, more money.

D “What is the use of the rules? I want only money,” said Chulong.

E Chulong began to sing like a bird.

F “I will not tell you the rules,” said the bird.

G “I want to make money. I can sell you for a big amount,” replied Chulong.
