• The neighborhoods were segregated based on religion so kids could all walk to their respective religious schools.

• They were colonized by 2 countries, so they adopted 2 faiths--Christianity & Islam

• They were one of the only places in the world that was colonized but did NOT accept Christianity.

• They accepted the Christianity that was forced on them, but they combined it with their indigenous faiths (witchcraft, faith healers, etc.)
