What is an independent variable

• The thing you can control in your experiment

The control group is

• a group in your experiment WITHOUT your independent variable.

• a totally different group, unrelated to your experiment

What can you do to confirm the results from your experiment are correct?

• Trust your initial results

• Repeat your experiment, and confirm the second batch of results match your first batch of results

Why can we only test one thing (one independent variable) at a time?

• If we changed two things it would be too much work

• If we changed more than one thing we would get confused

• If we changed more than one thing, we would not know which of those things affected our final results.

• Our data would be too messy if we tested more than one thing
