The standard form of the linear equation is

 $Ax\ +\ By\ =\ C$

What is the first step in putting the equation   $y=-\frac{2}{5}x\ -8$  into standard form ?

• Add 8 to both sides of the equation

• Move the term with x to the other side of the equation by adding  $\frac{2}{5}x$  to both sides of the equation.

• Substract y from both sides of the equation.

• Multiply every term by  $\frac{2}{5}$  

You added  $\frac{2}{5}x\$ to both sides of the equation   $y=-\frac{2}{5}x\ -8$ .  Now you have  $\frac{2}{5}x\ +y\ =-8$  . What do you do now?

• Nothing.  It is in standard form.

• Multiply every term by 2

• Multiply every term by 5

• Multiply every term by -8

What is the standard form of $y=-\frac{2}{5}x\ -8$ ?

•  $\frac{2}{5}x+y\ =\ -8$  

•  $5x\ +2y\ =\ -16$
