The first mobile phone came on the market in 1983. Though the clunky, brick-shaped phones became a popular reference in movies and television, most average people did not really use them. The term “cell phone” first appeared in 1979, in reference to the way mobile phone networks would serve specific regions or “cells.” Nokia brought a smaller phone to the market in 1999. Making the batteries smaller and the prices lower became a priority for a lot of the companies selling cell phones at the time. Only recently have some companies started making larger cell phones rather than making them smaller and smaller.
