Substitute players 

• may be used for more than one position in the bating order
• may be any player listed in the batting order
• are locked to that position in the bating order
• may be a player that has been a courtesy runner that 1/2 inning

A Substitute player

• may substitute in more than one position in the batting order 
• be any player listed in the batting order (1-9)
• is locked to that position in the batting order
• may be a player that has been a courtesy runner that 1/2 inning

A substitute returns to the game a second time after being replaced is

• legal
• allowed, but the team has to take a out
• a illegal entry , the umpire should not allow
• is allowed if they replace a different position in batting order than originally entered 

A substitute who enters the game with out reporting is 

• illegal player

the Flex may play offense for

• any of the batting order position
• for the pitcher or catcher only, that is not the DP
• for the DP only, the DP has left the game
• any position other than the DP

The DP can play defense for 

• the flex only
• any defense position, if playing for the Flex the Flex has left the game
• no one. the DP is batting only. they can not play defense 

Courtesy runners can be used for a pitcher or catcher, provided they bat for themselves and reach base safely
