Bill of Rights

The 1st Amendment gives you

• Right to a speedy trial

• Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, Petition

• Right to bear arms

• Right to trial by jury in a civil case over $20

The 2nd Amendment gives you the right

• to bear arms

• not to have to quarter soldiers in your home without permission

• not to have to testify against yourself

• rights not in the bill of rights are reserved for the people

The 3rd Amendment says

• You won't go to jail for stealing a candy bar

• the government no longer puts people to death by firing squad

• you don't have to quarter soldiers in your home unless you give permission.

• if the government takes your property they have to compensate you.

The 4th Amendment says

• prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures

• freedom to assemble

• protection from self incrimination

• powers not delegated by the federal government are reserved to the states

The 5th Amendment provides

• protection from having to testify against yourself

• protection from being tried for the same crime twice (Double Jeopardy)

• protection from life, liberty, and property without due process

• All of the above

The 6th Amendment states

• you have the right to a speedy trial by an impartial jury

• Freedom of religion

• Protection from excessive bail

• rights not listed in the constitution are held by the people

The 7th Amendment

• protects you from cruel and unusual punishment

• the right to petition

• gives you the right to trial by jury in civil cases of more than $20

• freedom of the press

The 8th Amendment

• Protects you from cruel and unusual punishment

• right to know the charges being pressed against you

• to not quarter soldiers without you permission

• right to bear arms

The 9th Amendment says

• you can protest without fear of punishment

• you have the right to bear arms

• you don't have to testify against yourself

• Rights not specified in the constitution are retained / held by the people

The 10th Amendment

• freedom of the press

• freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures

• you won't be fined $1 Million dollars for stealing a bike

• rights not delegated to the federal government may be exercised by the states
