assonance

• repetition of vowel sounds. Ex. Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away. (Sweep and heap long E sound)
• Use of words whose pronunciation suggusts their meaning (Hiss, Whirr, Buzz)
• the beat and pace of a poem. Can be created by the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line or verse.

• repetition of consonant sounds anywhere within the words. Blow! bugles blow! (repeated "l" sound)
