What topic could you apply the quote below to?

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come; thy will be done[MG1] ; on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.

Amen. The Lord’s Prayer, Church of England.

Christmas

Worship

Set Prayer

Answer explanation

All of these forms of worship will usually involve prayer. An example of set prayer that is frequently said aloud in church, especially at Holy Communion, baptism, marriage and funeral services, is the Lord’s Prayer. In response to a request from one of his followers, Jesus teaches them how to pray.

This prayer stresses the importance of the whole community standing humbly before God, trusting completely in Him and working to bring about God’s Kingdom on Earth. Part of this involves asking for forgiveness of sins, remembering to forgive others, and asking God for spiritual nourishment (“daily bread”); in other words, asking God to give us what we need spiritually.

What topic could you apply the quote below to?

When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites. They love to stand in the synagogues and on the street corners and pray so people will see them. I tell you the truth, they already have their full reward. When you pray, you should go into your room and close the door and pray to your Father who cannot be seen. Your Father can see what is done in secret, and he will reward you. Matthew 6:5-6

private worship

pilgrimage

communion

Answer explanation

During his sermon on the mount, Jesus takes this opportunity to show the importance of private worship and prayer, building and developing a private, personal relationship with God that is intimate and not just ‘for show’:
